About

me

Welcome!

My name is Alexis Hadjisoteriou and I am a Greek Cypriot photographer now based in Nicosia, Cyprus.

ABOUT ME

I discovered photography at the age of 11 when I was given my first camera - the little-known Petri 7S.
Shortly afterwards I was sent to boarding school where I took my hobby to a new level, spending hours experimenting in the darkroom - I feel very nostalgic about the "smell" of chemicals and print driers!

With the invasion of Cyprus at the age of 15, we had literally minutes to evacuate our homes with minimal possessions so I am pleased that I chose my trusted Petri (and a pair of jeans) to accompany me to our new home in London where, when I could afford to buy the film, I continued my hobby.

EQUIPMENT

With the Petri 7s now promoted to an air tight container in my display cabinet, nowadays I use Canon D-SLRs (50D and 20D as a backup) and lenses from Canon (85mm and 70-300mm) as well as Sigma (8mm, 10-20mm, 17-50mm). I use a Canon S70 compact camera for Kite Aerial Photography as well as the incredible (and tiny) Fuji F30 that is permanently with me for opportunistic snaps, video and underwater photography.

PHOTO SUBJECTS

As well as Wedding, Christening and general Event photography, I enjoy the challenge of photographing fast-action Sports (especially water and motor sports). I also love the variety offered in photographing people - I am particularly drawn by the innocence and purity in the expressions of the young; and the weathered, experienced features of the elderly.

I have recently "discovered" Kite Aerial Photography (KAP) which involves strapping a camera to a kite and photographing a bird's eye view of the world! The challenges of KAP include learning to fly kites, figuring what the camera strapped 600 feet above the ground is "looking at" and, of course, the small matter of remotely firing the camera shutter. Be sure to check the KAP category in my gallery.
